PhD position for Biochemistry degree holders at German Diabetes Center

The Institute of Clinical Biochemistry and Pathobiochemistry (Prof. Dr. Eckel) at the German Diabetes Center in Duesseldorf invites applications for aPhD student position.


We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who is interested in the field of obesity and type 2 diabetes. Our working group studies molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance in the crosstalk between different cell types. The project focuses on the development of lipotoxicity in skeletal muscle and its potential involvement in the induction of insulin resistance. This work is part of an EU FP7-funded research project (ADAPT consortium, www.adapt-eu.net) coordinated by Prof. Eckel. Candidates should have a degree in biology, biochemistry or a related subject. Background in cellular or molecular biology and experiences in cell culture, basic lab techniques and computer skills would be beneficial. We offer modern and well-equipped laboratories and expect commitment to basic and/or clinical research as well as the ability to work in a motivated team. Starting date is flexible and shoud be early 2011.
